Just three days after his appointmentthe Ministry of Production (Produce) announced the resignation of Javier Blas Verástegui Lazo as executive president of the National Fisheries Health Organization (Sanipes).
Through supreme resolution 021-2023-PRODUCE, the Peruvian Government appoints in its place the vice minister of the Vice Ministerial Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ursula León Chempén, on an interim basis.
Verástegui Lazo remained in office since last Friday, October 20, by supreme resolution 019-2023-PRODUCE, after the untimely departure of Víctor Haro Corales. There are no further details about his replacement.
Sanipes is the body in charge of regulating, supervising and supervising health and safety throughout the production chain of fishing and aquaculture resources and products, as well as food (feed), additives and veterinary products intended for aquaculture.
In addition, it grants sanitary authorization to the fishing and aquaculture infrastructures that participate in each phase of the production chain: fishing vessels, landing sites, farming centers, transport vehicles, processing plants, among others.
Recently, Produce authorized a second express season of anchovy fishing, despite the fact that the exploratory stage of said resource had not concluded. Exploration activities, led by Imarpe, began on the 21st (it was to last 5 days), and by the 22nd the season had already been authorized.
