Pucallpa prepares to host APEC Peru 2024

The working group APEC Peru 2024chaired by Ambassador Carlos Chávez-Taffur, held multiple meetings for two days in the city of Pucallpa to ensure the development of the various activities that will be carried out within the framework of the event declared of national interest.

The city of Pucallpa, belonging to the Ucayali region, It stands out for its great diversity and ancestral culture and will be one of the venues where the Ministerial Meeting of Small and Medium Enterprises will be held.as well as previous meetings in the month of September.

Ambassador Chávez-Taffur, together with the Minister of the Diplomatic Service Víctor Muñoz, from the Directorate of APEC and Specialized Forums, and the delegation of this working group met with various authorities. Among those present were the governor of the Ucayali region, Manuel Gambini, the provincial mayor of Coronel Portillo, Janet Castagne, the vice-rector of the National Intercultural University of the Amazon, Hernán Ávila, and the director of the Swiss Public Technological Higher Education Institute, Jorge Córdova.

They also met with business associations, such as the National Society of Industries based in Pucallpa, the president of the Pucallpa Chamber of Commerce, Nancy García, members of the National Police of Peru (PNP), the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) and other relevant actors for the realization of this international forum.

The selected cities (Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, Lima and Pucallpa) have various characteristics conducive to hosting the multiple meetings of the forum, which will generate benefits in temporary jobs and a positive impact on the different local and regional economies. especially in the areas of lodging, food, transportation and other services linked to the holding of this event.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum was established to strengthen ties between Asia-Pacific economies. Our country has been host APEC on two occasions: 2008 and 2016.

APEC is made up of 21 economies: Australia; Brunei; Canada; Chili; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; South Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; Philippines; Russia; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.

Peru’s participation in APEC, since 1998, generated important benefits for the country. In 2021, trade with the forum economies reached a record of US$67.5 billion. APEC Peru 2024 represents the opportunity to favor the development of social diplomacy to face the great economic-social challenges of the country, through economic and technical cooperation.
