He Ministry of Production authorized the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) the execution of exploratory fishing of the bonito resource for artisanal purse seine vessels with up to 10 cubic meters of hold capacity, which use curtain nets and other passive fishing gear in the maritime area of ​​national jurisdiction.

According to Ministerial Resolution No. 000360-2023-Produce published this Sunday, the first date of exploratory fishing will be from October 25 to 31 of this year and the second between December 12.

Likewise, it is established that exploratory fishing is subject to the following provisions:

  • The fishing vessels participating in this exploratory fishing only have one of the fishing gears on board. The General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction coordinates with the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guard (Dicapi) of the Peruvian Navy, the Ministry of Defense and the Regional Governments, to guarantee compliance with this provision.
  • Carry out fishing operations aimed exclusively at the beautiful resource.
  • The total capture volume of the bonito resource during the validity of the exploratory fishing should not exceed 1,664 tons according to the work plan sent by Imarpe.
  • Vessels that use purse seine fishing gear must not exceed 5.5 tons of the bonito resource, per fishing task, for each vessel.
  • Vessels that use curtain fishing gear, They should not exceed 3 tons of the beautiful resource, per fishing task, per boat.
  • Provide habitation facilities for the development of the work of the Scientific Research Technician, as well as the delivery of biological samples that are requested by Imarpe.
  • Carry out the unloading of the captured resource only at the authorized landing points and facilitate the control of the unloading by the inspectors of the Ministry of Production and/or the respective Regional Governments, being prohibited from carrying out any transshipment activity of hydrobiological resources between fishing vessels.
  • The owners of each vessel are obliged to deliver the Bonito Artisanal Fishing Log, at the time of landing of the bonito resource, according to the annex to this Ministerial Resolution, and must record the data recorded therein, by the skipper. fishing or a designated crew member.
  • Comply with the Imarpe instructions within the framework of the exploratory fishing work plan.

They set a limit for Perico fishing

On the other hand, Produce also established the Maximum Total Catch Limit (LMTC) for the mahi mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) resource at 45,000 tons, applicable to the fishing season for said resource until April 30, 2024. However, it is noted that This volume may be modified based on availability, following a report from Imarpe.

Ministerial Resolution No. 000359-2023-Produce, published today in El Peruano, indicates that the Ministry of Production concludes the extractive activities of the parrot resource when the LMTC is reached or estimated to be reached or when Imarpe recommends it due to environmental circumstances. or biological.

“Imarpe monitors the biological, population and fishing indicators of the mahi mahi resource (Coryphaena hippurus) and must promptly inform and recommend the necessary measures to the Ministry of Production,” the standard indicates.
