The Ministry of Production (Produces) today, October 22, authorized the start of the second fishing season 2023 of anchovy and white anchovy, intended for indirect human consumption.
According to the ministry, this activity will be carried out in the maritime area between the northern end of Peru’s maritime domain and 16°00’S, starting at 00:00 on October 26, 2023.
The Maximum Total Allowable Catch Limit of the North-Central Zone (LMTCP North-Central) of both resources in the second fishing season is 1 million 682,000 tons. The season will end when this volume is reached or, failing that, when the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) recommends it due to environmental or biological circumstances, as specified in Ministerial Resolution No. 000358-2023-Produce, published today in El Peruvian.
The standard also specifies that “only fishing vessels with a valid fishing permit for the anchovy resource destined for indirect human consumption, registered and authorized to develop extractive activities during this Ministerial Resolution, can carry out fishing operations within the framework of this Ministerial Resolution.” fishing season, in accordance with the Maximum Catch Limit per Vessel of the North-Central Zone (LMCE North-Central), whose list is published by Directorial Resolution of the General Directorate of Fisheries for Direct and Indirect Human Consumption of the Ministry of Production” .
Juvenile fishing
Likewise, the extraction and/or processing of specimens of anchovy and white anchovy with sizes smaller than those provided for in current regulations is prohibited, allowing a maximum tolerance of 10% expressed in number of specimens.
“When juvenile specimens of anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) are extracted in percentages greater than 10% according to the information reported in the electronic log or other authorized means, fishing activities, mainly extractive activities, are suspended for a minimum period of three consecutive days in the fishing or occurrence zones,” the legal device underlines.
Furthermore, Produce indicates that when the exercise of fishing operations is observed in areas reserved for artisanal and smaller-scale fishing, the administrative authority will adopt the corresponding supervision, control and sanction measures.
