With the goal of training leaders through the training of prominent individuals in the private sector, the Corporation for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Corpei) and the United Nations Institute for Vocational Training and Research (Unitar) presented a memorandum of understanding for the development and implementation of these activities between Ecuador and the UN , which both institutions signed on September 19 in New York.

They also launched a proposed agenda for a New National Accord for Ecuador and the official handover of the UN flag to Corpei. Initially, the contract will last for three years, with the possibility of renewal in the future.

Likewise, this memorandum of understanding seeks to establish a process that, from the private sector and without political leanings, promotes a sustainable Ecuador. This will be possible through a strategic group called Democratic Latitude, in which Corpei gathers and encourages the building of an agenda and a national agreement.

“Democratic Latitude is an initiative rooted in Corpei’s philosophy and co-founded by some of the most representative business people in Ecuador, with the main vision that there is no progress without peace. In addition, it has the support of international allies such as Think Tanks in Washington DC and New York”, explained the spokespersons of Corpei during the presentation of the memorandum.

At the same time, they will promote national dialogues to establish a common agenda that includes programs and policies aimed at improving security, cyber security and security of citizens, institutions, citizenship and the fight against corruption. In addition, adequate child nutrition and quality education, as well as inclusive productive development, rurality and the use of new technologies. Also, during the event, the UN presented Corpei with the flag of the Organization as a symbol of peace and progress.

The flag was presented by Álex Mejía, director of the Unitarian Department for People and Social Inclusion. “I would like to hand over the flag of the United Nations to Corpei as the responsible custodian of what this flag means through the recently signed cooperation agreement. I would like to hand over this flag, asking Corpei and its members to always raise it knowing what a better future means,” said Mejía.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Luis Gallegos, president of the Unitarian Board of Directors, indicated that the achievements achieved in this alliance tend to contribute to the future of the country and become a long-term reference, so that this model of intervention is replicated in other regions. “It’s a great honor for me that this is Unitar’s first contract, which will be the way Unitar continues to support countries around the world,” Gallegos said.

For his part, José Antonio Camposano, president of Corpei’s Board of Directors, pointed out that the Corporation responsibly assumes the role of a development agency that gathers entrepreneurs with vision and responsibility who want to contribute to the community. He also invited interested businessmen to join the initiative.
