Peruvian textile industry reaches 108 markets

The textile industry in Peru represents 8% of total national exports. This is because its wide offering reaches 108 international markets, highlighting countries such as the United States (US$1,008 million), Chile (US$107 million), Brazil (US$71 million), Canada (US$60), among others ( See graph).

In 2022, Exports of this item reached US$1,876 millionan increase of 20% compared to 2021, being the highest level since 2018.

“It is an important industry that generates 400,000 jobs directly and 900,000 indirectly,” said Juan Carlos Mathews, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Goods

The most exported product is T-shirts cotton, with sales of US$461 million in 56 markets and the participation of 668 companies. They are followed by others such as jewelry, toys and footwear.

“In 20 regions, there are 1,915 companies. US$1,436 million in T-shirts are exported from Lima and Callao. In Arequipa, fine alpaca or llama hair products, and cotton sweaters, total US$199 million“said Angélica Matsuda, executive president of Promperú.

In this framework, the 25th event is taking place Peru Fashion Deco, where 200 companies dedicated to clothing and decoration will be present. For this edition, it is expected to increase by 14% and close deals for US$80 million.
