While Peru and Argentina were playing their match for the fourth date of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, the Government — through an extraordinary regulation — published a resolution that authorizes the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) to carry out exploratory fishing for anchovy .

In detail, RM 000354-2023-PRODUCE gives the green light to the capture of anchovy and white anchovy from Saturday, October 21 of this year in the north-central area of the sea for a period of up to five calendar days.

Imarpe must inform Produce about the development of exploratory fishing and, if applicable, suspend the activity due to the incidence of juveniles — as was seen months ago and led to the cancellation of the first fishing season — or due to entanglement.

The standard signed by Ana María Choquehuancaowner of Produce, specifies that the resources extracted in exploratory fishing may be processed in industrial processing plants for indirect human consumption (for the production of fishmeal and fish oil) that have a current operating license.
