The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), in its latest Monthly Regional Trade Report, iHe reported that in 10 regions in the interior of the country, exports showed an increase of 1.5% between January and August compared to the same period last year.
In detail, exports in other cities of Peru, excluding Lima and Callao, reached US$34,430 million, which is equivalent to 84% of the country’s total exports, which were US$41,000 million.
In the south, Moquegua totaled sales abroad for US$ 2,684 million (+158%), this due to the contribution of the Quellaveco Project, which increased the region’s copper exports by more than 200%. It is followed by ApurÃmac, which exported approximately US$2,267 million (+59%) thanks to the increase in shipments of molybdenum (+102%) and copper (+58%).
Another region that stands out is Arequipa, which reached US$ 4,288 million (+7.5%) in exports, especially due to sales of minerals: zinc (+100%), silver and lead concentrates (60%), molybdenum (46%) and gold (23%). It should be noted that in the last twelve months the white city has established itself as the first exporting region in the interior of the country, accounting for 10% of total shipments.
By how much did exports increase in Northern and Central Peru?
In the north they stood out Piura, which totaled US$ 2,294 million (+25%) due to higher sales of fuel oil (+913%), squid (+113%), calcium phosphate (+41%) and fish meal (+61%); and Freedomwhich accumulated US$ 2,714 million (+5%) thanks to shipments of anthracite (+42%), sugar (+347%) and avocado (+10%).
In the central regions, exports accumulated an increase of 25.6% between January and August 2023, thanks to the performance of Pasco (+131%) which added US$ 811 million during the first eight months of 2023, due to its sales of silver and lead concentrate (+284%) and copper (+128%). They follow him Junin (+50%) that reached US$ 1,619 million for shipments of zinc (+148%), copper (56%), ginger (+84%) and cocoa beans (+54%); Ica (+16%) with US$ 3,967 million for its exports of copper (+110%), blueberries (+74%), long steel (+49%), zinc (+35%) and grapes (+9%) ; and Ayacucho (+12%) with sales of US$ 594 million, highlighting the higher sales of silver and lead concentrate (+8013%) and zinc (+US$ 25 million).
It is important to mention that in Mother of God US$125 million in exports totaled between January and August, thanks to the increase in gold shipments (+35%).
