The President was in New York, United States of America for personal reasons, and this Saturday, October 7, 2023, he planned to travel to Seoul, South Korea to begin an official visit to that country to finalize the details of signing a commercial agreement.
The main event on Lasso’s agenda in South Korea was a meeting with his counterpart and the pre-signing of a trade agreement. It also included an investment forum and meetings with Korean businessmen to promote the future benefits of the agreement and for Korean companies to continue investing in Ecuador.
How are the processes of Ecuador’s trade agreements with South Korea, China and Costa Rica progressing?
The pre-signing of the agreement is an internal process that South Korea has when trade talks close. “With the pre-signature, the negotiations are formally closed and the text is available in English, allowing the following internal processes in Korea, such as the translation of the agreement into Korean and, from the Ecuadorian side, into Spanish, in order to comply with all Korean legal procedures and the agreement is ready for the final signing of texts in three languages,” explained the deputy minister of foreign trade.
This agreement is one that the Government needs to sign, which it has already done with China and Costa Rica during its administration.
