Sunat keeps more than 130 iPhone 15 in custody due to lack of approval

The National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) reported that it maintains 136 pieces of equipment in custody iPhone 15 of the A2846, A2847, A2848, A2849 and A3108 models intended mainly for the markets of the United States, Puerto Rico, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, which lack the approval certificate.

The entity indicated that for those teams that do not have the homologation and are declared or communicated by the passengers, there is a procedure that consists of the issuance of a “proof of custodyunder which Sunat stores the equipment in its customs office at the Jorge Chávez International Airport with all the security of the case and without storage costs.

Likewise, it specifies that, as soon as the approval issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) is available, Sunat will communicate with the users who have their equipment in custody so that they can manage its recovery. The recovery process is completely free and does not involve any fine, except for the payment of taxes, in the case of cell phones that exceed the limit of unaffected devices.

On the other hand, sThe seizure of 29 iPhone 15 cell phones that were not declared has been carried out, exceeding the limits of the franchise per passenger. One of the seizures corresponds to a single passenger who was transporting seven iPhone 15 phones.

Other cases have also been detected in which it was intended to enter cell phones without boxes or camouflaged in other approved equipment, as well as the entry of empty packages transported by different passengers.

Sunat reminds citizens who travel outside the country and wish to purchase a mobile device to check if it is approved by the MTC before making the purchase by entering HERE. This way they will prevent their equipment from being placed in customs custody.
