The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Adriana Mira, reported that they seek to resume negotiations to establish a free trade agreement (FTA) with Peruduring his participation in the ‘Business opportunities seminar in El Salvador’, an event organized by the embassy of this country and the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL).
The negotiations of TCL between both countries began in 2010 as part of a process initiated with various Central American countries, but the talks stopped due to the lack of agreements related to market access, among other issues.
Although a specific date has not yet been defined for the restart of the Peru-El Salvador FTA negotiations, This proposal will be addressed in the meeting that Mira will hold with her Peruvian counterpart, Teresa Mera, this Tuesday, October 3.
“El Salvador is fully convinced and hopeful that we must get closer to Peru. And we will do our part to advance these negotiations as soon as possible,” he highlighted.
Exports from El Salvador exceed US$7.1 billion
For his part, the institutional director of the CCLCarlos Posada, indicated that, currently, there are conditions for Peru and El Salvador to resume these negotiations that will benefit bilateral trade.
“El Salvador has a lot to offerand these new market opportunities are something that all Peruvians must take advantage of”he remarked.
Likewise, Carlos Posada highlighted El Salvador’s actions to establish the rule of law and predictability, necessary for entrepreneurs in the decision to establish businesses.
It is important to mention that, currently, The Savior offers preferential access to 1.2 billion consumers in 42 countries, including the United States. In terms of exports, the country exceeded US$7.1 billion in 2022. Its main sectors are textile and clothing exports, agribusiness, food and beverages.
