Given the initiatives of Congress that seek to authorize a seventh withdrawal of AFP funds to face the increase in the cost of the basic basket, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, reiterated that it would be irresponsible to allow it.

“The last six withdrawals have been negative and generate a lack of social protection. Leaving citizens without a pension is not responsible”the official commented to the press.

It should be added that Contreras Miranda has been summoned for this Wednesday, October 4, in the Congressional Economy Commission, where he will support his position on a new withdrawal of funds.

“The position of the MEF coincides with the Superintendency of Banking and Insurance and the BCRP. Continuing to unprotect retirees is absurd. The withdrawals occurred in the context of a pandemic and now it is different,” he added.

Finally, Contreras emphasized that in practice, withdrawals impact long-term fiscal costs and violate the savings capacity of the financial system.
