Mining and hydrocarbon production grew more than 5% in August 2023

He mining and hydrocarbons sector increased 5.17% in August 2023 due to the positive result of mining-metal activities (4.63%) and hydrocarbons (9.08%), reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report ‘Conjunctural advance of economic activity’.

This result was influenced by the higher production volume of copper (7.5%), zinc (6.8%), gold (8.3%) and iron (17.5%). Meanwhile, silver (-4.1%) and molybdenum (-24.4%) decreased.

Likewise, the hydrocarbons subsector recovered based on the greater exploitation of natural gas liquids (23.7%) and natural gas (16.0%). However, crude oil decreased (-12.5%).

Advances in the fishing sector

According to the INEI, the production of the fishing sector grew 49.14%, driven by the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (66.02%), destined for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), totaling, catch volume of 182,785 tons, compared to the 35,295 tons reported in the same month of the previous year.

The anchovy landing was part of the exploratory fishing carried out in the north-central area of the coast, mainly in the ports of Chicama and Chimbote, as together they represent 76% of the total fishing of the resource.

Likewise, fishing for direct human consumption advanced by 17.99%, due to the greater capture of species destined for canning (67.5%), consumption in fresh state (20.5%) and frozen (19.5%). %). However, landings aimed at curing preparation decreased (-66.0%).

On the other hand, fishing of continental origin advanced by 0.90%, registering an increase in the extraction of species for consumption in a fresh state.

Domestic cement consumption decreased

During the month of August 2023, internal cement consumption decreased by 9.45% compared to the month of August 2022 and showed 12 continuous months of unfavorable results, given the lower progress of private and self-construction works.

Electricity generation increased

On the other hand, according to preliminary figures, in September of this year, electricity generation showed a growth of 3.22%, associated with the greater generation of energy of thermoelectric origin (16.8%) and renewable energies (27, 9%); However, that of hydroelectric origin contracted (-19.0%).

Among the companies that stood out for their higher production were Enel Generación Perú, Termoselva, Engie, SDF Energía, Sudamericana de Energía Piura, Fenix Power Perú, Termochilca, Kallpa Generación and Enel Generación Piura.
