This Saturday, September 30, the norm that modifies the Law on Cemeteries and Funeral Services (Law No. 26298). The initiative aims to incorporate a third paragraph that establishes the mandatory nature of cemeteriesboth public and private, to make transparent and visibly expose the costs of their services.
Thus, with Law No. 31884, the following paragraph was added: “Article 8.- Public entities will establish the rights of burials and funeral services provided in public cemeteries. Burial prices and rates for funeral services in private cemeteries will be determined according to supply and demand. The prices of graves and funeral services offered by private cemeteries and the rates charged in public cemeteries are published at the entrance of each establishment, on its website and on its social networks, if applicable.”.
The proposal was supported before the Congress of the Republic on September 7 by Wilson Soto Palacios, president of the Consumer Defense Commission, and obtained 118 votes in favor, zero against and 1 abstention. Therefore, she was exonerated from a second vote.
It should be noted that, as a final provision, it is established that the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) is the entity in charge of supervising compliance with the regulations.
