The public company Petroecuador has signed with the Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Canton of Aguarico (Gadmca), in Orellana, “The project of connection in the communities located within the area of influence of the operations of Block 16, which enables the reduction of the digital gap and the implementation of community development projects in the parish of Cononaco, Canton – Aguarico Digital.” The idea is to strengthen connectivity and bridge digital divides.

The project will have a total investment of $1.67 million and aims to directly benefit the Waorani communities: Dicaro, Yarentaro, Owemoiro (formerly Peneno) and Gabaro. It is estimated that the full operation of the service will last about three years.

Broadband Internet access will contribute to improving the quality of life of this population and strengthening the educational, touristic, cultural and economic activities of the family, in accordance with the working minutes signed between the EP Petroecuador and the communities.

The signing of the agreement marks a milestone after the process of decommissioning blocks 16 – 67 (Tivacuno), which were operated by EP Petroecuador from January 1. This is the first legal instrument generated by a public company, as part of the agreements concluded with the communities of this region.

Blocks 16 and 67 (Tivacuno) are in the process of recovering production levels, following the events that occurred in their facilities during the first quarter of this year. Currently, about 10,000 barrels of oil are being extracted from these blocks per day, the company reported.
