During his participation in Perumin 2023, the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarolaassured that “they will not allow the country to fall into chaos and insecurity” to the detriment of private investment, especially mining.
In a year in which private investment is expected to fall 18.1% and business expectations continue to deteriorate, Otárola alleged that they will continue to control “the violent marches” that occur.
“We will not tremble to continue doing so in defense of the fundamental rights and the peace and tranquility of 33 million Peruvians. (…) Mining is essential for the development of the country”he said before the businessmen.
Government will facilitate the reduction of procedures in mining
The Council of Ministers will prioritize in the session next Monday, October 2 the approval of the Digital Single Window to accelerate procedures in the mining sector — in the voice of Otárola — in response to the claim of corporations.
“A single window will be created for mining procedures, respecting the environmental, labor and general standards that are common requirements for mining investments. There will be a single window to tell the administrator something fundamental: yes or no, within a reasonable administrative period” , he mentioned to the press.
Otárola denies Minem: “Tía María is not on the agenda”
Alberto Otárola was consulted about the Tía María mining project, which has been stalled for more than a decade, and declared that it is not on the Government’s agenda at this time. “It has to be solved by consensus due to the problems that this investment has had,” he asserted.
