Management of Services and Extractive industries of the Association of Exporters (Adex) reported that the export of wood between January and October reached US $ 97 million 681 thousand, a growth of 32.2% when compared to the same period last year (US $ 73 million 871 thousand); However, it fell 3.9% compared to 2019 (US $ 101 million 619 thousand).
However, despite its potential – 85% of the national territory has the ability to forest-, in these 10 months of the year, shipments barely represented 0.7% of total non-traditional exports (just over US $ 13,050 million).
Therefore, in order to promote the recovery and development of this sector, the export union, PromPerĂș and WWF Peru organized the Forum of wood and finishes for sustainability in construction, in which topics such as opportunities and trends, potential of the sector forest, among others.
One of the great challenges is deforestation, caused largely by extreme poverty and social exclusion. In this context, one of the most abundant and important resources is the timber forest, its good management gives value to the forests, creates jobs and prevents deforestation.
