14% of companies in Ecuador expect to increase wages in 2022, according to a survey by the consulting firm PwC

On average, the increase will be 0.28%. On the other hand, 60% of companies do not define whether they will increase salaries.

A survey of 300 companies, between nationals and multinationals, on salaries in the country, reveals that by 2022 only 14% of companies plan to increase salaries of its workers by an average of 0.28%.

The consultant PwC Ecuador collected this information between August 1 and November 15 of this year, in large, medium and small companies, belonging to the industrial, commercial, services and financial sectors. The results were presented the morning of December 8.

The firm clarifies that this study it does not refer to the behavior of the unified basic salary (SBU). That is, the estimated increase percentage does not imply that the basic salary will grow to that extent, which is currently $ 400.

On December 22, the salary that will govern in 2022 will be set, according to the ministerial agreement of the Labor Ministry

Celso Malimpensa, CEO of PwC Ecuador, stated that the remuneration survey will allow Human Talent executives understand the prospects for wage growth that the country has and draw important conclusions about the economic dynamics.

By 2022, according to the report, 60% of companies have not defined if you will make increases, while 26% will definitely not proceed with any changes.

As to what has been done in 2021, 31% of companies consulted did raise salaries. According to the origin of investment, multinational companies showed an average increase of 0.38% and national ones 0.14%.

Regardless of the survey, the fixing the basic salary next year will be defined until December 22 in the National Council of Work and Salaries, which is made up of representatives of employers and workers, and is chaired by the Minister of Labor, Patricio Donoso. (I)
