Government analyzes investment possibilities with French authorities and businessmen

President Guillermo Lasso pointed out that the government seeks to open the provision of electricity to the private sector.

On the morning of this Wednesday, December 8, the President Guillermo Lasso and other Executive authorities met with the Delegate Minister of Foreign Trade and Attractiveness of France, Franck Riester, and businessmen from that country to analyze investment possibilities in Ecuador.

The Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, Julio José Prado, said that the authorities and French investors are willing to expand investments in Ecuador, mainly with companies related to renewable energy, wind, photovoltaic and solar.

In addition to the visits of French investment and private banks, and logistics, transport and railway technology companies, Prado said, referring to the works of the Quito Metro and airways that are being built in other parts of the country.

Technical cooperation in sustainable fishing was also agreed upon due to the “yellow card” imposed on Ecuador two years ago, which harms exports; and development in the creative and gastronomy industries.

Regarding the commercial agreement with the European Union (EU), Ecuador wants to take advantage of the presidency for the time being of France to expand imports and exports of that country.

Lasso reported that the Government created the Secretariat of Public Private Partnerships, which will have as its main objective the link between local and international investors, and said that there are sectors in Ecuador that are “havens of opportunities” for non-renewable energies.

The president spoke about the investment of a French company in electric cars and added that they are looking for “Open the provision of electricity to the private sector as well”. He recalled that the portfolio of investment projects is $ 30,000 million.

While, Riester He pointed out that there are many challenges on issues of global warming and preservation of the environment, which seeks to strengthen business ties and the optimization of the free trade agreement between the EU and Ecuador.

The blue economy and the preservation of marine resources, and the sustainable economy are also topics of interest to the French, Riester said. (I)
