Cencosud is a Chilean business consortium that has a presence in some countries in America. This holding company has a mall in La Molina which cannot yet be inaugurated. The shopping center has an area of 8,000 square meters and has 32 stores. It involved an investment of US$100 million and is located between Raúl Ferrero and Alameda del Corregidor avenues, in the La Molina district. Why can’t it be opened?
Conflict between Cencosud and the Municipality of La Molina
The Municipality of La Molina won’t let the mall Cencosud open due to the traffic jam that could cause in the area. The municipality cited the Ministry of Housing in a statement about the situation at Mall La Molina.
“The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) has denied the road impact study for the aforementioned project, which only 50% of the final area has been built. Having only access through av. Ferrero to park 1,300 vehicles on a two-lane avenue and a bicycle lane,” the text reads.
“It is technically unfeasible for vehicles to enter and exit via Ferrero Avenue, because it would cause a crisis and large-scale vehicular chaos,” adds the District Municipality of La Molina (MDLM).

Cencosud alleges that the Municipality of La Molina is generating “unjustified obstacles”
Faced with the statement of the Municipality of La Molina, Cencosud answered. “The entrance to the shopping center is designed with projection and simulation programs that guarantee safety and vehicular fluidity,” says the multinational.
“In addition, it has an ideal commercial provision of parking, which is demonstrated by obtaining our ITF and the favorable opinion of the Ministry of Housing“, they detail. “To date, the La Molina municipal authority is creating unjustified obstacles to the inauguration of our shopping center,” states the business consortium.
