Sunarp: until August, 105,800 Peruvians left their car as collateral to obtain a loan

The National Superintendency of Public Registries (Sunarp) reported that, between January and August 2023, a total of 105,800 people agreed to register movable guarantees in the Vehicle Ownership Registryin order to access credit.

This number of guarantees is slightly higher than that registered in 2022, just 3.29% more than the 102,434 reported in the first seven months of the year.

The security interest is a mechanism that allows a movable asset, such as a vehicle, to be used as backup so that an entity in the financial system, or another type of authorized creditor, can grant credit. To access this guarantee, registration with Sunarp is essential.

The registrations of movable guarantees, so far this year, were distributed nationwide as follows: Lima (86,623), La Libertad (3,076), Piura (2,169), Junín (2,110), Arequipa (2,071), Lambayeque (1,746), Cajamarca (1,427), Cusco (1,095), Áncash (962), Ica (618), Huánuco (613) and Tacna (609).

It is followed by the departments of Apurímac (470), Ayacucho (439), Puno (358), San Martín (279), Ucayali (225), Tumbes (194), Moquegua (131), Madre de Dios (129), Loreto ( 121), Pasco (121), Huancavelica (117), Amazonas (97).

It should be noted that, based on Law No. 28677, published in 2006, vehicles of any kind, ships, aircraft, locomotives, all types of machinery, inventories, among others, can be placed as collateral.
