Unpriced gasoline rose again this month, hand in hand with the increase in the international price of crude oil. EP Petroecuador reported that the new reference price of Supergasoline for its stations will be $4.33 per gallon, or 13 cents more than last month’s recommended price of $4.20. This value will apply between September 12 and October 11, 2023.
However, ecoplús 89 gasoline, which also has a free price, remained almost unchanged and fell quite a bit, from $3.38 to $3.39 per gallon.
This was reported a few minutes ago by that state company, with the explanation that the calculation of this value, which is published, was made based on the prices of oil and its derivatives on the international market. He explained that these factors are external and do not depend directly on the country or state.
According to Oswald Eraz, the executive secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Products Distributors (Camddepe), since last month there has been an increase in the international price of oil, and as the price of super adjusts, among other things, to the price of oil, it then increases. In addition, he believes that the price increase means that, since the other prices of frozen motor fuels remain unchanged, the subsidy will increase.
On the other hand, the company also assured that a gallon of fuel at the frozen price (extra gasoline, ecopaís and diesel) will remain in the same range, that is: extra gasoline and ecopaís at $2.40 and premium diesel at $1.75. The state-owned company has also assured that it has enough fuel in stock at both refineries and clean product stations to supply the entire country smoothly.
These days, Petroecuador also talked about the continuation of the plan to improve the octane number for regular gasoline, which would not cost the country more or increase fuel subsidies at frozen prices. On that topic, Erazo said that the extra eco octane number can be increased from 85 to 87, but at a higher cost, because gasoline with a higher octane number must be imported. “It would be good news for the environment and engine life, as it would use 52% of automotive fuel,” he noted.
