Chancay Megaport: Moody’s estimates contribution of 0.2 points to annual GDP growth

The construction and commissioning of the Chancay Megaport It would contribute around 0.2 points to the annual growth of Peruvian GDP, according to preliminary estimates by the rating agency Moody’s.

Jaime Reusche, vice president of the Moody’s Investors Service group, told Andina that the operation of the terminal by Cosco Shipping will mean a before and after in terms of international trade for our country.

“This project has an important contribution during its construction stage. Once finished, it will generate greater potential for Peruvian exports,” Reusche said.

The Moody’s representative also recalled that the opening of the Chancay Megaport, located 80 kilometers from Metropolitan Lima, will also speed up the dispatch of minerals from different parts of the territory. This is the case of Antamina, located in Áncash.

“It has great potential to help the mining sector. There is talk of linkages and creating a logistics hub near the port, that remains to be seen. When the project is completed, the potential of the megaport will be known,” he remarked.

The Chancay Megaport is a private investment project whose shareholders are the Chinese-owned companies Cosco Shipping Ports Limited (CSPL) with a 60% stake and the Peruvian Volcan Compañía Minera with 40%, although the latter has put its shares up for sale. .
