The Tax Administration (SRI) has opened five formal tax control procedures against several presidential candidates and candidates for the National Assembly who led the list in the August 20 elections. And this after the first PCR inspection (Rapid Control Plan), which identified for the first time the tax risks and appearances of the presidential couples, as well as the holders of parliamentary lists.
This was explained by Francisco Briones, director of the Tax Administration, who also indicated that in some cases the designated candidates paid the difference or justified the differences found by the control entity. However, in cases where nothing more could be done, formal control began, he said.
He also reminded that among the candidates for the President of the Republic there was one who did not come to the performance, and because of that the process was formally initiated.
When asked if any of the two finalist candidates for the second round were involved in this type of process, Briones said that legally the SRI cannot disclose this type of information.
The SRI announced the exam for couples, but it was not known that the process had also reached the main candidates for the compilation of each list of participants.
Previously, the SRI published the most frequent inconsistencies discovered in the statements of these public figures.
The SRI continued in this vein, holding that “presidential candidates, and politicians in general, must be the benchmark of a good citizen and taxpayer who respects and pays their taxes on time and truthfully in order to contribute, according to Briones. .
The PCR exams were announced in September 2022 and were primarily applied to football players, parliamentarians, businessmen and natural persons with significant assets abroad.
Tax PCRs are possible thanks to the cross-referencing of local information that SRI has begun to implement. This analysis is supplemented by information obtained from international organizations on accounts and assets abroad.
