The Ministry of Energy and Mines authorized the transfer of S / 21 million to the company Activos Mineros SAC (Amsac), with the aim of financing immediate actions in the Florencia – Tucari mining unit to avoid water contamination, according to the resolution Resolution Ministerial n ° 438-2021-MINEM / DM published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette El Peruano.
The financial transfer complies with the provisions of Emergency Decree No. 066-2021 that authorizes Minem to entrust Amsac with the execution of immediate mitigation actions in the Florencia – Tucari mining unit in order to avoid the generation of acid mine drainage .
This seeks to avoid the contribution of metallic charge and the increase in acidity in the quality of the water of the Apostoloni and Margaratini streams and of the water bodies located downstream, which affect the quality of groundwater, soil, flora, fauna and including the health of the people who live in areas surrounding the aforementioned unit.
Agreement between Minem and Amsac
In November 2021, Minem and the state company Activos Mineros (Amsac) signed the agreement, which will allow the latter, on behalf of the State, to carry out immediate mitigation actions and future mitigation studies at the Florencia Tucari mining unit.
Within the framework of the aforementioned agreement, the immediate mitigation actions to be carried out refer to basic studies, mainly of topography, hydrology and geotechnics, in order to validate the critical areas of intervention. Likewise, it will intervene in the improvement and maintenance of the contact water conduction system.
