Several products in the family basket have increased in price in recent weeks. The most worrying scenario is the case of lemons, which are costing up to S/20 per kilo. In this regard, the president of the Association of United Markets in Ica, Miguel Tito, told RPP News that the lime is also on the rise. One of the main causes is the high demand because of the shortage of lemon.
Tito revealed that the kilo of lime in Ica is trading at approximately S/3.50 to S/4.00. Besides, products such as red onion, yellow pepper and garlic also registered an increase. Here the detail:
- A kilo of garlic at S/18
- The kilo of red onion from S/5 to S/7
- The kilo of yellow chili from S/6 to S/8.
Given this situation, the president of the Association of United Markets in Ica added that buyers are opting for other alternatives, especially products from the area such as chickpeas and lima beans.
Will there be a lemon shortage in September and October?
According to Miguel Tito, lemons will become scarce the months of September and October due to low production due to flooding. Likewise, a part of it is exported to Ecuador and Colombia.
