The price of lemon in our country will remain high until October, anticipated producers and marketers, who do not see an improvement in the fields of crop in the short term, after one season of atypical climate in the northern regions.
In a tour of La República through various markets in Metropolitan Lima, it was found that a kilo of lemon reached S/16.
In addition, in Lambayeque, one of the producing regions par excellence, it was verified that lemons sell for S/1 each. According to the merchants, the mesh of 1,000 units is purchased at S/650. Before it cost S/120.
In Tumbes, the scenario is no different. Juan Arica, president of the region’s Lemon Association, points out that producers only harvest one mesh on average, compared to 15 or 20 before. He adds that the campaign was also affected because they did not receive the Fertiabono offered by the Government.

In the Piura region, Chulucanas lemon groves are also reporting problems placing their production, because the crops are not yielding as expected.
The lemon won’t come down
Henry García, director in Piura of the Peasant Research and Promotion Center (cipca), explains that prices have skyrocketed because the initial 2023 campaign was affected by a cold wave that prevented good flowering, in addition to water shortages.
García estimates that prices could return to normal after mid-September, as long as no pests appear.
Meanwhile, the commercial manager of Limones Peruanos, Luis Flores, reveals that agro-exporters sell their Tahiti production locally at the best prices left by the deficit of subtle or ‘cevichero’.
“He lemon October will continue to be a bit expensive, we will have to wait for December,” he warns.
The data
