MTC allocated S/260 million to prevent damage that El Niño could cause

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) allocated S/260 million to prevent and mitigate any damage that El Niño Global and El Niño Costero could cause in our country.

To date, 92% of the resources have already been directed to works that are in the contracting and execution processes, authorized under Emergency Decree No. 011-2023, to recover roads and place bridges that avoid the Isolation of communities in case of any emergency.

Through Provías Nacional, the MTC seeks to ensure trafficability in 65 sectors of La Libertad, Piura, Áncash, Cajamarca, Lima, Huancavelica and Lambayeque. In said framework, Provías Nacional has certified S/58.9 million in interventions in the national road network and S/91.2 million for the acquisition of modular bridge structures for the national road network.

Meanwhile, Provías Decentralized has certified S/90.6 million in interventions in the departmental and neighborhood road network. The General Directorate of Transportation Programs and Projects is going to execute S/14.7 million in interventions on concessioned roads.

Interventions carried out

Among other interventions in the national road network not under concession are the installation of the railing in the La Leche river and in the Mocce-Olmos section, sedimentation of the substructure was carried out.

In Piura, traffic was recovered on the alternate Canchaque-Huancabamba route. While, in Áncash, maintenance was carried out on the P-12 route: Santa–Chuquicara–Puente Huarochirí.

Preventive actions are also carried out in the surroundings of the Piura airport, such as the construction of dikes, embankments and channel qualification, among others.

In addition, S/100.2 million have been allocated for the acquisition of 120 machinery and vehicles to strengthen the sector’s response capacity to emergencies in the Non-concessioned National Road Network. This measure is in process.
