The Executive Branch sent to Congress the bill that sets the Public Budget for 2024, which amounts to S/241,000 million, and represents 22.4% of GDP.
The document specifies that there is an increase of 12% — as announced hours before by the Minister of Economy, Alex Contreras — compared to that presented in 2023. They also added that the growth is higher than the variation of 3.0% expected for GDP in 2024.
By sectors, the Public Budget 2024 of the Executive prioritizes education (S/46,506 million); transportation (S/21,995 million); health (S/29,474 million) and public order and social security (S/16,213 million).
The rest of the branches contemplated by the Executive’s project are social protection (S/9,307 million), defense and national security (S/6,040 million) and sanitation (S/6,402 million).
And, by levels of government, subnational governments will have a participation of 36.2% in the public budget for the next fiscal year (in 2023 it was 26.2%), increasing by more than 10 points. This is not only a rebound in the participation of subnational governments, but also — in the opinion of the Executive — “a sign of progress in decentralization.”
