According to a study carried out by Multitrabajos, 99% of Ecuadorian talents would like to work while traveling the world, but few have done so, since seven out of ten Ecuadorians think that it is not easy to put into practice.
Only 8% were digital nomads at some point in their working career and in different work sectors: commercial in 17%, Marketing and communication for 14%, production for 10%, and technology and systems for 9%.
These are the seven occupations that will be most in demand in Human Resources in the future
The vast majority, 92%, have never worked like this. Report digital nomads, in which 13,925 talents from the region participated, tells why they don’t do it: 68% think it’s not something that’s easy to achieve, 21% said that it’s not allowed in the organization where they work and they can’t afford to lose that job. Only 7% do not decide to do so, and 4% do not feel ready.
As digital nomads There are well-known professionals who are embracing technology to implement a work-from-anywhere lifestyle. “That tendency of a human being to want to travel the world is not new, but thanks to technology today it is possible for a large number of talents to do so. And this is crystallized in the fact that flexibility in terms of schedule and geographic location is one of the main requirements of workers when choosing a job,” explains Jeff Morales, Marketing Manager of Multitrabajos.com.
Women have more telework contracts in Ecuador
The desire to work in this way is common in Latin America. 99% of Panamanians, Peruvians, Chileans and Argentines, like Ecuadorians, would also like to work while traveling the world.
But, likewise, in other countries of the region, most of the talent never worked while traveling around the world: 90% in Panama, 90% in Chile, 88% in Argentina and 85% in Peru.
75% of the respondents stated that they do not know anyone who works on this modality, while the other 25% said that they do.
The future looks like a different scenario. 93% of workers in Ecuador believe that in a few years it will be more common to be able to work while traveling around the world.
Why were those 8% of Ecuadorians ever a digital nomad?
33% experienced this style because they wanted to improve their quality of life, 29% wanted to see new places and people, 26% because it allowed them to stay longer on trips and generate more income, and 12% because they needed a change in their life.
Of the total number of Ecuadorians who work or have worked while traveling the world, 53% have or had a dependent job that they performed or performed remotely, 24% have or had their own business, and 23% are or were freelancer.

What about the business side?
62% of the surveyed talents claim that the company they work for does not allow them to lead a digital nomad, compared to 38% of people who work in organizations that have this option, although they do not think it is relevant to the benefits, that they encourage employees to do so, or that, although it is allowed, companies suggest that it does not.
In the case of respondents from Ecuador who say that their company is not allowed to work while traveling around the world, it is noted that 82% claim that this is because their work is only face-to-face, 8% believe that because it implies the development of other skills and self-confidence, 5 % believe that this is not allowed due to a legal problem and another 5% because their organization encourages social gatherings despite the remote modality.
