MEF announces citizen security plan “better than Bukele’s”

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras, stated that the Executive will launch the Con Punche Seguridad plan to combat insecurity and crime, and that it will be “better than the Bukele plan.” The minister added that there are 30 measures that will be implemented in sectors such as Education, Health and social programs, which will require a robust budget during the presentation of the Multiannual Macroeconomic Framework (MMM).

“The plan that we call Con Punche Seguridad, I am sure that it will be better than the Bukele plan, because it is not only going to be a reactive plan, that we are going to have to capture the criminals, but it also has to do with prevention. Because it is precisely in dysfunctional homes, with abandoned children, where the future delinquents of Peru begin to sow,” said the minister.

According to Contreras, to implement a better plan than Bukele’s, a significant injection of resources is required for the acquisition of patrol cars and to increase the number of police officers on the streets. “There are more than 30 measures that are going to require financing and that we are including both this year and next year in the budgets,” referred.

In this line, the general director of Public Budget, Jessica Camacho, pointed out that the budget for order and security exceeds S/1,500 million and contemplates the reinforcement of surveillance and the computer system that supports rapid identification of crimes.

Meanwhile, the head of the MEF added that there will be “a historic break” in the budget that will be allocated to social programs such as Pensión 65, Juntos and Haku Wiñay.
