Golden Cup Peru 2023: the regional stage begins to select the best Peruvian coffees

For the final stage of the third edition of the Fairtrade Golden Cup Peru 2023 Coffee Quality Contest, which will take place in October, they have classified seven microlots and two full containers from different coffee cooperatives from Pasco and Junín, in the Central Jungle.

Ana Salazar, lead judge of the national team of tasters who has participated in wine tasting events peruvian coffee in France, Switzerland, the United States, among other countries, reported that the samples presented this year are of higher quality compared to those that participated in the two previous years of the contest. This implies a greater effort on the part of producers and organizations to bet on specialty coffees.

“This reflects the enthusiasm of coffee growers to produce fine coffees that can compete in the Golden Cup and position themselves in the demanding international market for Fair Trade coffees. This is excellent news for buyers, who have high expectations regarding the results of the contest. “, he added.

It should be noted that improving quality contributes significantly to the increase in activities related to specialty coffees that are being developed mainly by young people, such as local competitions and training of tasters, as part of the coffee production chain. In this way, microlots of fine coffees will become large lots capable of meeting the growing international demand.

“The coffees that participated in the regional stage in Selva Central present fruity notes, with hints of tropical fruits such as mango and peach, tones of syrup, and a very balanced acidity and body, as well as a long-lasting flavor. They have the profile that attracts many buyers of high specialty coffee who are willing to pay high prices for this type of coffee,” said Salazar.
