En bloc resignation in the coaching staff of the women’s team, denouncing manipulation by the RFEF

Eleven members of the coaching staff of the Spanish women’s team, including Jorge Vilda, the first coach, have made their positions available to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in support of Jenni Hermoso and the rest of the players international.

Likewise, they have denounced that the RFEF forced several female members of the coaching staff to stand in the front row during the assembly on August 25, “exposing their image and trying to make society and players understand that they shared the president’s thesis of the RFEF”.

The eleven people have signed a statement made public on X (formerly Twitter) where they express “their firmest and most emphatic condemnation of the conduct shown by the president of the Spanish Football Federation”, Luis Rubiales, with Jenni Hermoso, whose version of the facts endorse against that provided by the leader.

In this way, “in view of the unacceptable attitudes and demonstrations carried out by the top leader of the RFEF”, the eleven signatories make their positions available to it: Montse Tomé, Javier Lerga, Eugenio Gonzalo, Blanca Romero, Carlos Sánchez, Rubén Jiménez , Sonia Bermúdez, Javier Velázquez, Javier Egido, Ander Ruiz and Elena Fernández.

The national coach, Luis de la Fuente, censures Rubiales “without palliatives”

Even though he was one of the people who applauded effusively this past Friday the version and decision to continue in charge of Rubiales, Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish men’s senior team, issued a statement this afternoon in which he assures that he censors “Without palliatives the wrong and out of place behavior of the president of the RFEF.

“The events carried out by Luis Rubiales did not respect the minimum protocol that must be followed in these celebratory acts, and they are not edifying or appropriate for a person who was representing all of Spanish football. He himself has publicly acknowledged the inappropriateness of his behavior” , affirms in a letter sent to EFE signed by the coach and also on behalf of the coaching staff.

De la Fuente wanted to make his position on the events “clear” and also express his “absolute rejection of any act of sexist violence. There is no room for lukewarm positions when dealing with this type of situation.”

“I want this unpleasant episode to be closed as soon as possible for the good of Spanish football and that the competent bodies resolve and make the pertinent decisions as quickly as possible,” he added.

De la Fuente also regrets “deeply the events that took place and, especially, that they have taken away from what is really important: the unprecedented feat achieved by Spanish women’s football, of which we should all feel very proud.”
