Congress prepares new pension changes

Today, the Economic Commission of Congress would approve the creation of a Special Multisectoral Commission, in charge of establishing compensation mechanisms, recognition bonuses and alternatives for the administration of pensions to contributors and former contributors to the National Pension System.

In detail, the congresswoman Carmen Monteza He pointed out that this working group will evaluate the viability of granting new recognition bonds and proportional pensions to citizens with less than 10 years of contributions.

Likewise, two opinions will be drawn up that would seek a possible return of contributions and a future reform of the general pension system.

This initiative comes after representatives of the entities involved were summoned last week, such as the Social Security Normalization Office (ONP), the AFP Association, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

It should be mentioned that this opinion also includes the legislative initiative approved last week by the Labor Commission that focuses on compensating ONP affiliates who contributed less than 10 years, and therefore do not have access to a pension.

As it is recalled, last November the ONP granted the first proportional pensions to older adults who contributed less than 20 years to the SNP, in compliance with the law approved by Congress in May. However, from the Central of Retirees and Pensioners of Peru (Cenajupe) They also asked to meet the demands of those who contributed less than 10 years who were excluded.

Data

Antecedent. The TC declared unconstitutional the return of contributions from the ONP.

Affiliates. There are 4.7 million ONP affiliates and 7.9 million in the AFPs.
