Shopping centers nationwide have already recovered their pre-pandemic levels of sales and visits, in some cases they are already exceeding these figures, according to the CEO of Real Plaza, Misael Shimizu. The return to face-to-face of the majority of workers and students has contributed to bringing Peruvians closer to these spaces, especially in the provinces. In addition, it is specified that at least half of Peru visits a shopping center per month.
“Both at the Real Plaza level and at the general market level there is a significant recovery (in sales and visits). Shopping centers in Peru have established themselves as a meeting place, a space for recreation for many Peruvian families. The speed recovery has been greater in the provinces, where the return to face-to-face has been greater,” explains Shimizu.
Although the social and climatic crises that affected the country with greater intensity from December 2022 to February of this year limited visits to shopping centers such as Real Plaza, between March and April there was a rebound that has allowed them to exceed expectations. In the first half of the year, sales grew 10% compared to the previous year.

In the case of cinemas, for example, we have seen very important premieres in the last 3 or 4 months that have attracted a lot of attention and have led to a very solid recovery. in terms of viewers after a very difficult 2-3 years for the industry,” says Shimuzi.
