On the occasion of the end of the year festivities, the Indecopi launched the digital guide #ChecaTuCompra – comparative of panettone, a document that will allow citizens to know relevant information about 12 brands of this product in terms of its labeling: nutritional table, among other aspects of great importance and that are mandatory on the packaging.
Christmas 2021: What is #ChecaTuCompra de Indecopi about?
#ChecaTuCompra is a guide that contains useful information when choosing the panettone of your preference for this Christmas. In addition, the mandatory information that the product labels must contain is detailed, such as: expiration date, health registration, nutritional table and special storage conditions, prices, among others.
Similarly, this research includes a comparison of the level of saturated fats and total sugars for each serving of panettone in various brands, so that the population can choose in a healthy way.
In this regard, the entity evaluated the following brands:
- Gloria
- Wong
- Saint George
- Tottus
- Winter’s
- Donofrio
- White flower
- Bimbo
- Union
- Happy Christmas
- Metro
- Todinno
According to Indecopi, the panettones of the aforementioned companies exceeded the limit of 10 grams of sugar for every 100 grams of panettone, and they have an octagon. However, these did not reach the sodium parameter.
Concern about saturated fat
As mentioned by the Indecopi, of the 12 brands that passed evaluation, Union panettone is the one that does not exceed the saturated fat indicator. Secondly, Wong’s product has the highest amount of saturated fat with 17 grams per 100 g of panettone.
What are the panettone with the most kilocalories?
The panettone, being an energy food, has on average 366 kilocalories per 100 grams. Faced with this situation, we present three brands that have a high number of kilocalories (kcal) per 100 grams:
- Wong, con 460kcal/100g
- Gloria, with 380 kcal / 100g
- Donofrio, con 374 Kcal/100g.
Why was Bell’s panettone not included on this list?
Indecopi mentioned that they did not include the panetón Bell’s because “It does not provide nutritional information to its consumers, therefore it was excluded from the analysis”, you can read in the guide.
This information is given after said institution imposed a precautionary measure and ordered the cessation and commercialization of the panettone with raisins and candied fruits of the Bell’s brand, among other products for mass consumption, since they would contain trans fats in an amount greater than that established by the regulations in force.
