The option to keep Yasuní oil unexploited is ahead in the tally of minutes processed by the National Electoral Council (CNE), and Petroecuador is awaiting official results to challenge the decision made at the polls in the August 20, 2023 election.
58.98% of Ecuadorians responded that they agreed with the Ecuadorian government keeping the ITT crude, known as Block 43, underground indefinitely. 41.02% said no. These percentages correspond to 93.5% of valid records entered into the CNE system.
