Peruvian Coffee Day: Devida will offer 10,000 glasses of this drink for free next weekend

The National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Of life), in the framework of the celebration of the Peruvian Coffee Day, from August 25 to 27, promotes activities in various regions of the country. These include the tasting of 10,000 glasses of prepared coffee, made with inputs from producers who have opted for alternative cultivation in the context of the fight against illicit drug trafficking, reported Carlos Figueroapresident of the aforementioned institution.

The official specified that this delivery will take place in two places. The first one will be in a cafeteria in Lima, where 1,000 glasses of coffee will be invited this coming Friday. The second point will be at the fair’I drink Peruvian coffee‘, in the La Rambla Shopping Center, located in San Borja; the remaining 9,000 glasses will be delivered here. This event will take place from the 25th to the 27th of this month and will have the participation of 18 producer associations from the regions of Junín, Puno, Cusco, Ayacucho and Huánuco.

The executive president of Devida specified that Activities for Peruvian Coffee Day will be carried out in Junín, Puno, Cusco, Ayacucho and Huánuco, regions that opted for alternative cultivation.

Consumption per capita

On the other hand, Carlos Figueroa Henostroza stressed that Devida works to promote the consumption of national coffee to support alternative development and the families that opted for this mechanism. Currently, Peruvians consume approximately 0.9 kg of coffee per year, which is equivalent to around 88 cups of coffee in twelve months.

Peru is the ninth producing country and second exporting country of organic coffee worldwide, winner of quality awards in international competitions.

There are 88 organizations promoted by Devida, of which 18 currently export coffee and have the United States as their main buyers (more than a million dollars), followed by Germany (US$690,194), Belgium (US$497,700), the United Kingdom (US$240,125 ), Japan ($196,750), among others.
