He is 18 years old and Guatemalan: a key was the key to finding the suspect in the death of the girl found under the bed

Guatemalan, as María was, he is the young man arrested for being a suspect in the murder of the 11-year-old girl who has left civilians in Pasadena, Texas in agony; and in the Central American country.

He was identified as Juan Carlos García-Rodríguez and has been under arrest in Louisiana since early Saturday morning, August 19, 2023, according to the Shreveport Police Department, Noticias Telemundo reported.

Genetic testing implicates him in the case. María González was sexually assaulted and strangled in her home on Saturday, 12 of this month.

Juan Carlos, the police authorities reported, lived in the same residential complex where the apartment of Carmelo González, María’s father, is located.

The clue to locating Maria’s attacker

Noticias Telemundo reported this weekend that a key to the 18-year-old’s apartment was “at the crime scene”.

According to Univisión, investigators interviewed Juan Carlos and took a DNA sample from him.

Pasadena, Texas Police Chief Josh Bruegger reported that a key was found at the crime scene. This, Univisión reported, opened the door of another address in the housing complex.

“Two residents lived in that apartment, plus a third who had suddenly left. At that address, García-Rodríguez’s key was missing, so police located him at the crime scene,” the news outlet said.

They announced that the Guatemalan will be extradited from Louisiana to Texas and on Monday, August 21, he will be brought before a judge to hear the charge of aggravated manslaughter on which he will face charges.

If found guilty, according to what was reported by journalist Francisco Cuevas, “he could face the death penalty.”

The 18-year-old had entered the US illegally earlier this year and was detained at the border, but was later released by sponsors in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

the murder

The girl sent text and voice messages to her father on Saturday, 12 of this month, who left for work shortly before 10 a.m. She told him she felt a knock on the door and he told her, “Don’t open it, Maria.”

Carmelo González asked her brother to move into the apartment to help her niece who was in danger.

Uncle Reginaldo said he found disorder in the living room and didn’t see the little girl. When Carmelo arrived, they found her in the laundry basket, wrapped in plastic: “We found her lifeless under the bed.”

All the weight of the law, Maria’s father asks

Neighbors of the victim expressed their solidarity with the father and prayed for her during a vigil. “I’m glad they caught the person and he’s never leaving there[prison],” Cometa López told the news network.

“The arrest of the perpetrator has brought some peace to us and the community,” María’s father said in a statement.

We are thankful that he can no longer hurt anyone.
