BCRP launches a S/1 coin that costs S/147: where can I buy it and what other exclusive models can I buy?

This 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Peru and Japan (1873-2023). For this reason, to commemorate this event, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) put into circulation a new collector’s coin that has a value of S/147. As is known, from time to time this national entity releases commemorative copies for certain special dates such as the proclamation of independence, the bicentennial of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.

What is the currency like and where can it be purchased?

The face of the coin shows an image composed of emblematic mountains of both countries: Machu Picchu and Mount Fuji, accompanied by linear elements that evoke the rising sun at the top and the Peruvian flag at the bottom. Likewise, the legend “Diplomatic relations”, “150 years” (this word in Japanese character), “Peru-Japan” and the years “1873-2023” are observed. On the obverse, there is the coat of arms, the text “Banco Central de Reserva del PerĂº”, the year of minting and the denomination in letters “Un sol”.
