The Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System (SOTE) received ISO 14001:2015 recertification for the environmental management system and for the first time received the ISO 45001:2018 certificate for the occupational health and safety management system, issued by the international certifier Bureau Veritas, Petroecuador reported this Thursday, August 17.
SOTE is the infrastructure that transports crude oil from a storage terminal in Amazonia to the crude oil export and distribution port in Esmeraldas, enabling the efficient and safe shipment of oil to refineries and the international market.

According to the latest official figure shared by the state-owned company, a total of 26,845,432 barrels of crude oil were transported through SOTE between January and March 2023. In January, 9,926,140 barrels of oil were transported, in February 6,813,636, and in March 10,105,656 barrels of oil.
The pipeline was put into operation in 1972 and in these 51 years it transported 5,606,114,227 barrels of Ecuadorian crude oil, with a capacity of 360,000 barrels per day. The first export took place on August 16, 1972, in the amount of 308,283 barrels of 28.1° API oil.
The infrastructure has an initial transportation capacity of 250,000 barrels per day of 30° API crude oil.

The provinces of Sucumbíos, Napo, Pichincha, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Esmeraldas are part of the area of influence for the operation of the pipeline.
In addition, the state oil company pointed out that the pipeline has a Scada system, which monitors and controls the operation of pumping and reduction stations, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition, it has a state-of-the-art Delta V control system for automatic monitoring and control of transport process variables and facilities in each facility.
