Mincetur: 1.3 million foreign tourists arrived in Peru until July 2023

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Juan Carlos Mathews, highlighted this Wednesday, August 16, that, from January to July 2023, 1,327,666 international tourists arrived in Peru, an important figure that represents an increase of 38.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. It should be noted that this year’s goal is to reach 2.5 million foreign visitors.

These data are reflected in the Mincetur Monthly Tourism Report for July 2023, which has been prepared by the General Directorate of Tourism and Crafts Research and Studies of Mincetur.

“This figure shows that the actions that are being promoted are on the right path and with a single objective: to increase tourism activity in the country, which generates economic dynamism and important jobs. These numbers also reveal that in the first seven months an additional 369,000 foreign visitors arrived in our country compared to the year 2022,” said Minister Mathews.

In this sense, he asserted that there is a total commitment of Mincetur, Promperú, Cenfotur and Plan Copesco Nacional to promote an adequate tourist offer that allows visitors to feel satisfied in their visit to the country.

Chile, the United States and Ecuador are the main emitters of tourists

The study of Mincetur details that, among the main source markets for international tourists to Peru, in the first seven months of the year, are residents of Chile with 25.1% participation and 333,771 visitors, followed by the United States (20.0% and 265,941)Ecuador (9.2% and 121,826), Colombia (5.9% and 78,793) and Brazil (4.7% and 62,889).

At the regional level, South America represented 54.3% of the total (720,000 international tourists). Likewise, North America concentrated 24.5% (326,000), Europe 14.5% (192,000), Asia 3.2% (42,000) and Central America 2.7% (36,000).

Regarding the income from the Immigration Control Post, Jorge Chávez International Airport registered a total of 867,000 international tourists (65.3% participation)while the Santa Rosa Border Control Post recorded the entry of 255,000 visitors (19.2%).

The departure of Peruvians abroad increased

On the other hand, between January and July 2023, the departure of 1,681,508 resident Peruvian tourists (+73%) was reported, which represented an additional flow of 710,000 compared to the same period in 2022. It should be noted that this figure represented 87.2% of what was registered in a similar period of 2019. Among the main countries of destination are Chile (32.2%), the United States (13.2%), Spain (8.2%) and Mexico (7.7%).

Likewise, 67.2% of the total number of resident Peruvian tourists registered their departure through the Immigration Control Post of the Jorge Chávez International Airport, while 23.8% did so through the Santa Rosa Border Control Post in Tacna.
