“Didi Moto and Picap don’t go!” The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has reported through its official social networks. Because, as reported The Republicthe referred applications they began the registration of drivers to offer the taxi service, despite being prohibited by current Peruvian regulations. In addition, the entity has requested the internet operating companies to block both.
“Didi Moto and Picap don’t work, motorcycle taxis don’t work! We have requested that Internet operators block these applications within one day. Everyone’s safety is not a game! The TCM will not allow any company to circumvent Peruvian laws and threaten our security and integrity. In this management, the laws are complied with!” said the head of the MTC, Paola Lazarte.
The official statement of the entity indicates that the motorcycle service is completely prohibited, according to Law No. 27189, Law of Special Public Transportation of Passengers in Small Vehicles. This provision is based on the high rates of road accidents associated with these vehicles.
This newspaper made public in mid-July that the companies Didi and Picap had started to implement this service, noting that they would function as an intermediary between motorcycle drivers and users who want to move in a “more efficient” way. Likewise, Indrive has already started a trial period of this service, in the application there is the option “Motorcycle trip”.
