2023 has crossed the barrier of the first semester and the labor market already has measurements that give an idea of ​​how it will move by the end of the year in terms of job demand, expected wages and gender differences.

A survey by the portal Multitrabajos, closed last July, showed that companies have a high demand for workers in the commercial field, job ads cover 43.98% in this sector. While the field of human resources is the one that provides fewer opportunities with only 2.32% of notifications.

Meanwhile, the study specified that as far as the commercial sector is concerned, 18.86% of the positions that companies are most looking for are sales positions, and the remaining 18.52% are positions in the commercial field.

It was also pointed out that the commercial area is the one that receives the most applications, 36.54% of the total number. The field of administration accounts for 20.92%, followed by Human Resources, Technology and Systems and Marketing with 2.70%, 1.71% and 4.55%, the specialized portal reveals.

The portal also analyzed the salary aspirations of Ecuadorians. According to the recent Labor Market Index by July 2023, the average required salary was $807. This is an increase of 0.14% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 1.76% compared to last year.

The study stated that to the extent that length of service – the categorization of employees or job candidates is greater, candidates increase their aspiration. In this sense, the intended gross amount is $1,363 for manager and supervisor positions, which is an increase of 2.09% compared to June 2023. Seniors and semi-seniors estimate a salary increase of $797, or almost the same as last month, while the junior category tended to estimate $527, which corresponds to 0.24% less than the previous month.

The gender pay gap is growing by 10% in favor of men

Within applications by gender, the pay gap is still visible with an average salary of $834 for men and $756 for women, widening the gap by 10.31% in favor of men. Likewise, the number of male applications is higher than female.

And they differ depending on the applied category. Out of the total number of posts, 41.60% are women, of which 45.24% refer to lower positions, 38.39% to senior and semi-senior positions, and the remaining 30.26% to managerial and supervisory positions.
