Mincetur: 12 regions increased their exports in the first half of 2023

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that, after the first six months of 2023, a total of 12 regions in the interior of the country managed to increase their exports.

According to said entity, the regions that grew the most are in the south and center of the country: MOquegua (+147%), Pasco (+94%), Apurímac (+71%) and Junín (+68%). Piura (+29%), La Libertad (+12%), Ica (+11%), Madre de Dios (+9%), Lambayeque (+9%), Ayacucho (+8%), Arequipa (+2%) and San Martin (+1%).

Arequipa, in the last year, stands out as the main exporting region in the interior of the country, contributing with 9.6% of national shipments, while Piura has established itself as the leading exporter of non-traditional products, contributing 17.5% of the total,” said Minister JJohn Charles Mathewscites a press release.

In it South of the country, Exports from Moquegua totaled US$1,911 million in the first half of 2023, thanks to the boost in sales of copper (+198.2%), molybdenum (+41.5%) and gold (+148.6%). For its part, Apurímac reached US$1,494 million due to the recovery of molybdenum (+112%) and copper (+70%) sales.

Arequipa —previously mentioned as the main export region in the interior of the country— achieved US$3.23 billion due to an increase in sales of zinc (+193%), silver and lead concentrates (+74%), molybdenum (+32%) and gold (+23%).

northern regions

Piura, along with La Libertad and Lambayeque were the three northern regions that increased their exports the most and point to a new sales record in 2023, according to Mincetur.

The first exceeded US$1,842 million due to higher shipments of fuel oil (+596%), phosphates (+71%) and grapes (+39%). In this sense, it is important to highlight that Piura is the main exporter of non-mining and energy products, accounting for 13.4% of total shipments (last 12 months).

Lambayeque, on the other hand, added US$ 354 million at the end of the first half of the year, due to its higher sales of fruit (+18%), mainly blueberries (+125%), grapes (+41%) and avocados (+ twenty-one%). While La Libertad, which reached US$ 1,965 million, explains its growth thanks to higher shipments of fishmeal (+92%), anthracite (+84%), avocado (+30%) and silver concentrates and lead (+26%).

Shipments from the center

In the center of the country, Pasco added more than US$578 million in exports thanks to sales of silver and lead concentrate (+298%) and copper (+72%). Meanwhile, Ayacucho, which reached US$439 million, stood out for its shipments of silver and lead concentrate (+7096%).

Junín totaled US$1,293 million due to an increase in sales of zinc (+151%), copper (+80%), ginger (+79%) and cocoa beans (+31%). And, finally, the growth of Ica (US$2,961) was due to higher shipments of copper (+123%), long steel (+35%), grapes (+12%) and blueberries (+12.4%) .

middle performance

Finally, in the east, two regions increased their sales abroad. Madre de Dios managed to reach US$92.7 million thanks to the growth in gold shipments (+29%); and San Martín totaled US$110.6 million as a result of exports of cocoa beans (+38%), canned hearts of palm (+10%), forestry products (+1.9%) and palm oil/derivatives (+ 2%).
