Inflation in the south slowed, but remains above the national average

Inflation slowed down in November from 0.58% to 0.45%, but in the southern regions its percentages are still above the national average. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), Apurimac (0.91%), Tacna (0.80%) and Puno (0.80%) are the regions with the highest inflation. The items that registered the most increase were accommodation, water, electricity, domestic gas and other fuels.

Arequipa (0.58%) and Cusco (0.52%) appear with less variation in the south, however, they did not stop presenting price increases. In the imperial region, 140 products suffered the variation. In the markets of Cusco, green beans, papaya, avocado and chicken show increases of S / 0.30 cents and S / 2.

“Before with 100 soles you could make the purchases of the week, now it is insufficient, the basic family basket is no longer covered. Month after month it’s the same, with the same salaries, it is no longer enough. In the houses you no longer eat with chicken, “said Juan Cansio, president of the Departmental Federation of Workers of Cusco (FDTC).

The hardest hit to the family economy is in domestic gas, which rose 10% in the last month. The price of a bottle of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) began a new rise in December. In the distributors of Cusco it is sold between S / 57 and S / 60 according to the brand.

Prices have not stopped increasing since January of this year when inflation was 0.37%. In August it reached 1.23%, being the month with the highest inflation of the year. Although the decline began, it is insufficient to stabilize prices. For the head of INEI Cusco, Henry Chacacanta, the variation in fuel is what motivates the rise in the chain, since transportation depends on whether the products reach the markets.
