The talented actress did not leave any offspring. She became infertile due to postpartum complications – she had previously given birth to a daughter, whom she lost a few days after giving birth. However, in the house of the actress and her husband, the writer Stanisław Dygat, the neighbor’s daughter often appeared. This is Aleksandra Wierzbicka, who at the age of nine liked spending time in the company of the original married couple.
The adopted daughter of Kalina Jędrusik reveals details about the death of the actress after many years
The girl and Kalina Jędrusik got along very well with each other and over time Wierzbicka became an adopted daughter for the actress. When the girl got older, Jędrusik helped her and wanted her to find a good job in the future. When Wierzbicka left for London in the late 1980s, she was very proud of her. However, soon after, she asked her to return to Warsaw to take care of her.
The adopted daughter was with her until her death, and Jędrusik even made her her heir. Now Wierzbicka has decided to write a biography of the legend of Polish cinema, which will be released soon. In the excerpt from the book “Kalina Jędrusik. The Tale of a Daughter of Choice” published by “” we read that although the actress left suddenly, she regularly took medication, thanks to which her asthma was under control.
According to her adopted daughter, Jędrusik enjoyed her life in 1991 and only retired, thanks to which she felt financially stable. In addition, Wierzbicka emphasized that three days before her death, the actress functioned normally. She took, among others participation in the auction of works by Bożena Wahl in Łazienki Park. It wasn’t until the next day that she went to visit a friend in the neighborhood that she couldn’t make it back on her own. Only when she got home did she ask for an ambulance. This is how Wierzbicka described the night of August 6/7, 1991 in her book:
Everything was under great tension. I sat on the bed and hugged her. I patted her lungs. In the hospital on Płocka Street, they told me to make a boat out of my hand in the event of an attack and tap it. Kalina calmed down and stopped coughing. I thought she felt better and fell asleep. A moment earlier she had asked, ‘What about the ambulance?’ And those were probably her last words. It got quiet. The doctors came in. The doctor tilted Kalina’s head to the side, and there were already rain spots. She said Kalina was dead. I heard what she said to me, but her words did not reach me. I looked at the doctor, I said something incoherently, to help her, to do something. Some electroshock, CPR. I think I even shook Kalina. ‘I can’t help my mother anymore,’ said the doctor. She asked if I wanted a tranquilizer shot. I did not want.
“I will not sign the sentence that Kalina died because of animals”
According to Wierzbicka, the actress died as she wanted – peacefully in her sleep. She also mentions that the cause of death was “circulatory failure”, which she noted in her biography about her adopted mother. “She controlled her allergies, did allergy tests. Much more than fur, she was allergic to theater dust.[…] I will not subscribe to the opinion that Kalina died because of animals, “wrote Wierzbicka in the book “Kalina Jędrusik. Wierzbicka spent the next day preparing the body of the actress, for which the funeral home came in the evening. Jędrusik was dressed in her favorite clothes and snakeskin shoes. Wojciech Gąssowski, who was the beloved of the legendary actress from the old days, was responsible for organizing the funeral. The premiere of Aleksandra Wierzbicka’s book will take place on August 29, 2023. In addition, the woman runs the “Kalinowe Heart” club in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district.
