Petroleos del Peru – Petroperú SA announced that the construction of the New Talara Refinery, one of the most modern on the southern Pacific coast and which will consist mainly of 16 Process Units and five Auxiliary Unit packages, presents a comprehensive progress of 96.54%.
Along these lines, the state oil company launched the Seawater Capture, Desalination and Treatment Plant, and thus marks an important milestone in the gradual start-up of the New Talara Refinery.
“The start of activity of this plant will allow 46,500 m3 / h of seawater to be treated through a reverse osmosis process for purification and subsequent use in the operation of the fire protection system, in the steam generation boilers and in the cooling system, necessary for the start-up and operation of the Process Units of the new refinery complex, “said Petroperú in a press release.
Subsequently, the water used in the processes and that has had contact with hydrocarbons, will be treated in the Industrial Effluent Treatment Unit, which has a capacity of 400 m3 / h, in compliance with the maximum permitted limits required by the Ministry of the Environment. .
The treated water will then return to the sea through the submarine outfall without causing environmental damage.
Petroperú: Talara, development for all
During its execution, the New Talara Refinery has contributed to the social and economic development of the country and especially the Piura region and the city of Talara, by creating about 18,000 temporary jobs.
This exceeds the percentage of hiring of unskilled local labor (maintaining 89% of workers’ participation) while, for local qualified labor, 30%.
“The New Talara Refinery will be in accordance with the new demands of the international energy market, producing cleaner fuels that ensure the preservation of air and the health of all Peruvians,” Petroperú stressed.
