The Association of Poultry Farmers of the South (Avisur) and the Northern Egg Producers Association (APPROHNOR) have reported that around 3.6 million units of eggs enter illegally each week from Bolivia and Ecuador.
The eggs would be entering the highway without customs control or sanitary supervision, which could threaten the health of citizens, since they can cause diseases such as bird flu, warn the unions. In addition, it would also imply a danger for the national industry.
In this sense, the associations of producers will hold a conference this Thursday, August 10 at 9:00 am
It should be noted that the egg in various markets of Metropolitan Lima has presented an increase in its costs in recent months and was between S/10.50 and S/11.00 by the end of May. The reasons for the price increase are due to the fact that the population of laying hens that were affected by avian influenza would be recovering.
Raúl Salas, president of Avisur, previously told this outlet that only by November and December could stability in values be seen. “The egg is going to be between 50 and 20 cents more in the following months. As much as (the price) of soybeans and corn has fallen, our costs remain high, ”he said.
