Petroperú reported on the beginning of a program of visits to the oil fields of Lot I, located in the district of Pariñas, province of Talara, as part of the activities prior to its entry as an operator, on December 27. These negotiations began in October, according to what the state agency Perupetro revealed at the time.
Block I is currently operated by the company UNNA (former GMP), but the term of said contract expires on December 26 of this year, after 30 years of validity of the term established by the Organic Hydrocarbons Law (LOH), to oil exploration and production contracts
In July 2021, Perupetro carried out the citizen participation process prior to the assignment of a new operator for Block I, considering the expiration of the contract and in compliance with the citizen participation regulations for hydrocarbon activities.
“Petroperú’s entry into Block I will allow it to supply its own oil production to the Talara Refinery, an important milestone for the vertical integration of the state company, in line with its strengthening that is currently being promoted by the central government,” Petroperú highlighted.
Temporal agreement
As La República learned, this contract not yet signed will be temporary for 22 months. This fact, still not clarified but which appears in the contract project, coincides with the completion of the contract for lot VII / VI – expires on October 21, 2023 – also located in Talara and which Sapet operates today.
Although it should be noted that Petroperú’s entry into Block I will allow the state company to supply its own oil production to the Talara Refinery, it is a marginal lot with a current production of 539 barrels of oil per day. The operation consists of 99 drilled wells and the investment made in said lot amounts to US $ 135.9 million.
At the closing of this report, this newspaper learned that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) would be observing the contract for Lot I of Petroperú because the state company is going alone and that collides with Article 4 of Legislative Decree 1292.
